Toowoomba Second Range Crossing

Delivering a safer and faster link for commercial vehicles.

The Project

The largest Australian Government funding commitment to a single road project in Queensland’s history. The $1.6billion project is a 41km road bypass route to the north of Toowoomba.

What it delivers

The project delivers a safer and faster link, providing commercial vehicles with an alternative crossing of the Toowoomba Range to improve freight efficiency and driver safety, relieve pressure on roads in Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley, and enhance liveability for the region’s residents.

Client

The project was delivered by the Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads and Nexus Infrastructure, a joint venture between Acciona and Ferrovial.

Key Challenges Addressed

One of the most notable features is the 800-metre-long viaduct bridge which consisted of 22 spans and crossed over the QR Western railway line. This required working at great heights to install complex concrete structures and demonstrated the company’s ability to take to adapt to new challenges.
